There are a vast number of different rugs in the world. But Oriental rugs stand apart from the rest. Historically first rugs were manufactured in the East. Oriental rugs
are deeply intertwined with the history of that region. The most ancient rugs were weaved in the sixth century б.я. Archaeologists discovered them in Altai region, and now they are kept in the Hermitage.
These rugs are certainly to be weaved in Assyria (today’s Iraq). Nowadays such countries as Iran, China, India and Turkey are the biggest suppliers of oriental rugs
. It is very hard to count all types of Oriental rugs.
There are kilim, sumach, gerat, mahal and many other types. They differ from each other by weaving techniques, designs, materials and so on. Despite the ascetic lifestyle of many families in the East, every home is completed with Oriental rugs
be it rich or poor. In some Islamic countries religion forbids human images so you can see only ornamental pictures on these Oriental rugs.
