Rugs Hooking
Rugs hooking is the technique that allows to create a looped pile fabric, tapestry or rug. The hook, that is used in rugs hooking, has much in common with a crochet hook. Usually it is inserted into a wooden handle. This handle is used to pull strips of narrowly cut fabric from the back up to the front of the item that is being created.
The strips from loops look like ribbon in rugs hooking. Usually woolen fabric is used in traditional rug hooking, although in some geographic areas the use of woolen yarn was common. The fabric strips are pulled through a backing, usually burlap, on which an ornament or a picture has been drawn.
There are a high variety of different styles of rugs hooking. The result of some is finely shaded, realistic flowers, fruits and scrolls, which were so popular in the middle of the 20th century. Other styles feature more primitive, folk-art style, associated with country decor.
The difference is achieved by material manipulations and artistic vision of a craftsman.
